Dental care can be a matter of life or death. Yet more than 100 million Americans either don’t have dental insurance or simply can’t afford to see a dentist. The result? Severe pain, preventable disease, humiliation, bankruptcy and sometimes even death.

Brisk winds and a cold snap couldn’t stop school nurse Natasha Holcombe from being first in line for free dental care for her children Saturday.

This Saturday, the Sarrell Dental Bus visited Montgomery to provide area children a range of free dental care services.

This Wednesday, Santa visited about 100 kids at Tanner Head Start Center and Elkton Road Head Start Center on behalf of Sarrell Dental Center, a non-profit dental center that serves children on Medicaid, All Kids and BlueCross BlueShield.

The dental facility is a self-sustaining, non-profit group that provides dental care to children with Medicaid and ALL Kids insurance.

The “open wide” instruction is something most of us worried about as children. But a screening service in Athens offers no drills, no fillings, and no pulled teeth. A retired dentist, Dr. Thomas Dowling is offering his services here for free.

A statewide non-profit organization is working to increase the number of Alabama children who get dental care and education.

Sarrell Dental will soon have eight offices across the state, including one in Talladega.

It’s no surprise that Santa had to make a stop at Sarrell Dental during his travels this holiday season; after all, with an organization that sees so many children each year, he was bound to have the opportunity to meet many children whose names were on his list.
